A Look Back at 2016

I always enjoy Weston Wellington’s look at what the press has to say about the markets. His articles for Dimensional Fund Advisors are usually lighthearted and very easy to read.

In his “A_Look_Back_at_2016_US” article, he reminds us that not many knew what would happen in 2016. If they did, they weren’t talking.

What happened? Chicago Cubs won the World Series, Bob Dylan received the Nobel Prize in Literature, Donald Trump was elected president, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average approached 20,000.

He concludes with a recommendation to embrace a simple strategy for investing and a reminder to ignore the “white noise” in the news because, “embracing sensible asset allocation and broad diversification was likely less frustrating than fretting over portfolio changes in response to news events.”
